Style Denver

Welcome to Style Denver

Denver is an incredibly amazing place to be. There are a variety of things to do in Denver including all things imaginable indoors and outdoors. This site will be my take on the local style scene, very basic, and very unbiased.

Who lives in Denver?

Denver is a very diverse place to live. Approximately every 3 out of 4 people living in Denver was born elsewhere. Denver is a melting pot of people from all over the world. After living here for awhile, you'll notice some trends of who is living here. Most people who have moved here are from California, Nebraska, Wyoming, Kansas, New Mexico, Texas, and the Midwest. It seems that people seem to like Colorado tremendously and leave their states to be here. We tried to keep it a secret, but people just keep moving in.

What is Denver Style?

First off, please excuse my stereotyping and generalizing in advance -

The style of Denver residents is a bit difficult to describe. Denver as a city is relatively small compared to other large cities (around 600,000) with many large suburban areas. These neighborhoods and population centers really define the style of Denver. In the Highlands (neighborhood), you'll find yuppy 30-somethings who are fairly well to do hipsters that enjoy the older homes with character. In Highlands Ranch (no relation to Highlands), you'll find nice cookie-cutter houses with soccer families. In Downtown Denver, you'll find a variety of uptown, downtown, and lower downtown differences. In uptown, there is a revitalization in progress and that area bridges downtown to the Highlands hipster neighborhood. Lower Downtown (LoDo) contains the bulk of the nightclubs and has the highrise apartment buildings and lofts nearby. Coors Field (baseball) is located in LoDo and adds a 'ballpark' atmosphere to the fancy lofts nearby. Directly west of Downtown Denver, you'll find an eclectic art area influenced by Hispanic and Native American residents. Denver is truly a 'cow-town' that is turning into a big city.

For Big City Peeps Thinking About Moving Here

For those from the big city, Denver will feel like it's in its infancy. It will be cheaper and newer. It will also be cleaner. One of the first things you notice about Denver is that the locals really care about their city. Littering is highly frowned upon here and being green here is cool. You'll notice that there is rarely litter on the ground and the bums are not too scary.

For Small Town Peeps Thinking About Moving Here

For those from the small town, Denver feels like the place to be. It's growing quickly, has more than enough things to do, and has an awesome mix of people, culture, and nature.

For Californians Thinking About Moving Here

This is a great place to live. You'll find many of your favorite things here, like the sunny days and the skiing. However, before you sell your shoebox in San Francisco to trade up for a loft in Denver, keep in mind that we really don't like the way you drive here. When you go up to the mountains in your phatty SUV (that's a compliment), DO NOT DRIVE 75 MPH IN A SNOWSTORM ON I-70. In fact, don't drive that fast ever because you're rarely in control. Thanks and come on in.

For Texans Thinking About Moving Here

We like Texans, hell, we're a cow state too. Rasslin and roping broncos, you bet. Same goes for you guys, speed up your massively large pickup trucks. Keep the flow. Also, leave the bull horns at home and the hanging balls from your bumper. Otherwise, come on in.

For Kansas People Thinking About Moving Here

We love you guys. You work hard and are absolutely glory eyed with everything you see here. Now take a chance and come on in. We've been using your state to drive through for years now...you know that too that's why you charge so many tolls!

For Midwesterners Thinking About Moving Here

This place is gold. Your work ethic is appreciated. Come on out and learn what skiing on a mountain means. No more landfills for you guys.

Denver's One Downside

The downside...no water. It's a desert here people. Leave your speedboats at home. Don't believe that you can go to Chatfield or Cherry Creek Reservoir and jet around, you'll be going in circles and will just be annoying the locals. That's basically it. Okay, there are a couple more downsides...the traffic sucks sometimes, houses are semi-expensive, and no one here wants to plow snow because it melts in like a day or two anyways...and there's horrible drainage on the roads...don't ask me why.

What You Can Always Count On

There will always be blue sunny skies. Rarely is there an entire day without sun...seriously like never. Almost every morning you wake up, the sky is blue, and the sun bright.

The mountains will always be there in their majesty. Depending on the smog, sun, clouds, where you are, and time of day - the mountains seem alive. Some days they are sad and dreary and others they are absolutely outstanding. Within Denver, there are some hilly areas where it's possible to see the entire front range. Also, you can see Pike's Peak all the way from Denver. Also, don't expect Denver to be 'in' the mountains, it's not. They are 15 minutes away. Also, do not confuse the mountains with 'the hills'. The foothills are only a fraction of the size of the mountains...of course locals sometimes refer to the ski resorts as the hills too.

You can always count on that hot tub at the ski lodge to feel extra awesome...especially when the snow is falling. Awesome!

The sunsets here over the Rocky Mountains are gorgeous. The sun sets slightly earlier because the mountains are in the way. This also means that when the sun rises it's brilliant orange glow from the east, it lights up the mountains.

When the leaves change here, it's gorgeous.

Washington Park is the perfect place to take the family, party with friends, or go relax.

The microbrews - obviously one of the best local brewery collections in the world. Thank you to the miners who brought their booze mentality here earlier.

To be honest, I could go on and on about how awesome Denver is. The first time you visit this city, you'll probably fall in love too. With all of the tourists I've met over the last 12 years living here, I bet that 50% of the people that visit here contemplate moving here. It really is such a great place that you contemplate your current living conditions.

Enjoy the site --

Nick
